Ian was born and raised in the coal region of eastern Pennsylvania. His humble upbringing shapes many of his creative stories. He attended Bloomsburg University where his interest in stories and people stemmed from studying history and philosophy. Ian earned a master’s degree and taught at the K-12 level for 13 years before returning to graduate school to earn a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University.

In his role as an Assistant Professor, Ian assists medical students in their pursuit of medical humanities, narrative medicine, and leadership studies. He is a certified Narrative 4 facilitator and an alumnus of the University of Toronto Narrative-based Medicine program.
